The 17th death anniversary of Pakistan’s legendary singer and actress Malika-e-Tarannum Noor Jehan was observed on Saturday.

Noor Jehan’s real name was Allah Wasai and was born on September 21‚ 1926 in Kasur‚ Punjab. She was renowned as one of the greatest and most influential singers of her time in South Asia and was given the title of Malika-e-Tarannum in recognition of her services.

She started singing from the age of nine and recorded about 10‚000 songs in various languages of India and Pakistan including Urdu‚ Hindi‚ Punjabi and Sindhi. She also ruled the field of literary ghazals for over 35 years.

On December 23‚ 2000‚ Noor Jahan died and was buried in Karachi.
