Protests against Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty

The protest against the Bollywood actors is over their use of a derogatory term that denotes a scheduled caste.

A lesser known political party approached police in Mumbai on Saturday seeking action againt Bollywood actors Salman Khan and actress Shilpa Shetty for their alleged casteist utterances in TV shows.

The latest complaint comes amid protests in various states against the Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai, released on Friday, over Khan’s remarks.

The Rojgar Aghari Republic Party of India in its complaint to Andheri police station alleged the duo “intentionally insulted and intimidated with intent to humiliate and abused” by using derogatory comments denoting a scheduled caste community.

The complainant Navin Lade said he received the video clip when he was near the Andheri police station on Wednesday. He also demanded an FIR be filed against Shetty who in a TV interview ostensibly said: “I look like bh***gi.”

Vlamiki community has been protesting against the remarks demanding legal action against the duo.

Paramjit Singh Dahiya, deputy commissioner of police, zone IX said no FIR has been registered even as a letter of complaint was received by the Andheri police.

Lade’s advocate Nitin Satpute demanded an FIR be filed under relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for the alleged casteist slur.

Earlier, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) sought a reply from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the police commissioners of Delhi and Mumbai over complaints against the two.
