Dharmendra: Apne 2 Cancelled After Legendary Actor’s Death

Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, leaving a deep void in Indian cinema. Following his death, director Anil Sharma confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 family drama Apne, titled Apne 2, will not move forward. Sharma had completed the script and finalized production plans, but he said, “Without Dharamji, it’s impossible to make the sequel,” adding that Dharmendra’s passing is both a personal and professional loss.

The original Apne marked Dharmendra’s first on-screen collaboration with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Apne 2 was planned to unite three generations of the Deol family, including Karan Deol. Fans had eagerly awaited this reunion, making the cancellation a disappointment for Bollywood audiences.

Dharmendra’s final release will be Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Agastya Nanda. The film will premiere on December 25, 2025. The makers released a tribute poster calling Dharmendra “an emotional powerhouse and a timeless legend of Indian cinema.”

Celebrities, fans, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences. Modi described Dharmendra’s passing as “the end of an era in Indian cinema” and praised his versatility and unforgettable screen presence.
