Later, Raja Hindustani in 1996 changed her career. She then won a National Award for Dil Toh Pagal Hai, where she performed alongside Madhuri Dixit in a Yash Chopra classic. A Childhood Shaped by Family Values Karishma shared that she always dreamt of joining Bollywood but often doubted herself. She remembered visiting her grandfather on film sets, especially when he was directing Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The sets, lights, and camera fascinated her. When she told him she wanted to act, he warned her that the industry was glamorous but far from easy. Her mother, Babita, played a major role in keeping her confident and grounded. Karishma said she and Kareena traveled to school on a bus and used local trains during college. Their mother wanted them to stay connected to their roots. The Start of Her Career Karishma explained that her mother encouraged her to pursue acting despite her fears. She eventually signed her first film, a remake of a South Indian movie. She worked hard during the shoot and wanted to prove herself. The movie became a success, and her career began to grow. Handling Highs and Lows Karishma also spoke about dealing with criticism and failure. She mentioned her famous song “Sexy Sexy,” for which she trained intensely and even injured her knees. Although she received praise for her performance, the song faced criticism at the time because the word “sexy” was uncommon. Her mother reminded her that an actor’s job is to entertain and that one setback should not define her. Karishma says this advice helped her stay strong through difficult moments.
