It is no secret that before finally hitting the screens last Friday, Parmanu was mired in controversy. John Abraham, who was not only starring in the film but also producing it, was engaged in a legal battle with producer Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment over delay in payments. Parmanu, which was first slated to hit the theatres in December 2017, was pushed several times. John heaved a sigh of relief when the film was cleared for release earlier this month by the Bombay High Court, which also ended the film's association with KriArj Entertainment. In all this mess, John's friendship with Akshay Kumar has soured, if a report in Times Now is to be believed. Rumour has it that it was Akshay who recommended that John join hands with Prernaa. Apparently, Akshay had vouched for Prernaa, who bankrolled three of his films - Rustom, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pad Man. However, when John and Prernaa were fighting it out in court, Akshay distanced himself. John is said to have reached out to Akshay for help, but the latter did not wish to get involved in the matter. According to industry insiders, John feels betrayed by Akshay's lack of support, and they are no longer as close as they used to be. Meanwhile, John has vowed never to work with Prernaa again. In an interview with India Today, he admitted that he made a mistake by bringing her on board Parmanu. "I take responsibility for choosing the partners I did. I must admit that even though I did my background check and got a green signal, I was wrong in my judgement. There was a lot of collateral damage," he said.
