Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rohit Shetty’s cop-verse too is in full swing. After delivering three hits, including Singham (2011), Singham Returns (2014) and Simmba (2018), the filmmaker is now prepping for his directorial next Sooryavanshi. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead, playing Veer Sooryavanshi, the film will be another action-drama like its predecessors. However, Akki’s character will be largely different from that of Ajay’s or Ranveer’s.

“Akshay’s Sooryavanshi is entirely different from Singham or Simmba. He doesn’t wear a uniform and is very stylised. [In sharp contrast], Simmba was a brat. Sooryavanshi’s department too is showcased differently. Also, while Singham fought corruption, Sooryavanshi deals with terrorism. So, the individual traits of these characters will give us enough [to play with as a whole unit],” Rohit Shetty told Mid-Day in an interview.

It has already been revealed that the film will be set in the ‘90s, so it is like a prequel to the previous films in that sense. We were first introduced to Akki’s character during the post-credit scene of Ranveer Singh’s Simmba. It has been established that Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) and Veer Sooryavanshi, already know each other. May be they have met too. But Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba (Ranveer Singh) is yet to meet the ATS chief.

Sooryavanshi will also reunite Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif on the big screen after almost a decade. The two actors were last seen on the big screen in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan. Last month, the makers of Sooryavanshi, Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar, along with Akshay Kumar, announced that Katrina has been signed to play the female lead in the film.

et to release in 2020, Sooryavanshi will most likely be the final film in Rohit Shetty’s cop-verse before he attempts to do the first cross-over film, in which all three actor, Ranveer, Ajay and Akki will come together on the big screen. While the filmmaker has revealed the idea, but is yet to confirm a date when this cross-over might finally happen.
