The couple, who live in the upmarket Esplugues de Llobregat district, lost several expensive watches and pieces of jewellery during the burglary.

Pique’s parents were sleeping upstairs when the break-in happened. They were unharmed.

Regional police sources have confirmed they are investigating a burglary at a house in the area which occurred in the early hours of this morning. No arrests have yet been made.

Pique, 31, had travelled to the German city of Cologne were Shakira, 41, was performing last night and was not at home at the time.

The criminals, described as “professionals” who left no fingerprints, reportedly took watches and expensive jewellery after timing their break-in to coincide with a storm which muffled any noise they were making.

A police spokeswoman said the thieves did not initially know the owners of the house were the A-list stars.

The thieves, who have not yet been identified, took luxury watches belonging to the singer’s footballer husband and a selection of pricey jewelry.

Their 700 square metre mansion has high walls and a 1000 acre leafy garden that stops the celeb inhabitants from being overlooked by neighbours.

They also bought the adjoining land so that nobody would bother them.

It is thought the thieves took advantage of storms in the area as cover for their break-in.

Pique’s parents heard nothing and only discovered something was wrong when they woke up and called police.

“These types of criminals usually act very professionally and wear gloves and balaclavas,” a police spokesman has told the Spanish press.

In February burglars broke into former Liverpool star’s Philippe Coutinho’s home near Barcelona on the same day his car was towed away.

The midfielder had to get his Audi Q7 back from a municipal pound after visiting the famous Sagrada Familia monument with family and friends and leaving it badly parked.

Worse was to come when he returned to his luxury villa in Castelldefels a 30-minute drive south of the Catalan capital to find it had been burgled.

The thieves are thought to have taken advantage of two ladders that had been left by a neighbouring property where work is going on to enter the mansion, the old home of Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas.

The thieves struck while the 25-year-old, who joined Barcelona on a POUNDS 142 million deal in January, was out for dinner after recovering his car.

Coutinho was enjoying some down-time with his wife Aine and friends after staying behind in Barcelona while his teammates travelled to Chelsea for their Champions League tie because he was ineligible to play in the competition.

Shakira’s partner is the Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique and the pair have been together since 2011. They have two children, Milan, five, and Sasha, three.

Last year, rumours of a ‘split’ surfaced in the Spanish and Colombian press, but despite a rocky relationship with his country’s own supporters, it seems as if things are still strong with the Hips Don’t Lie singer.

A statement from Shakira’s publicist, issued to HOLA magazine, read: “Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s relationship is still going strong. Everything is the same.”

It added that claims of a split were “only rumors ” from people “who want to harm Pique.”
