Neeraj Pandey’s espionage thriller ‘Aiyaary’ boasts of power-packed performances by the ensemble cast and an intriguing storyline based on true events. The cast and crew came together for a screening that took place at a suburban theatre this week. Seen at the screening were Sidharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Chopra and several others.
‘Aiyaary’, presented by Reliance Entertainment, PEN Studios and Friday Filmworks, released yesterday and revolves around Colonel Abhay Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) and his protégé, Major Jai Bakshi (Sidharth Malhotra), who are posted along the Line of Control (LoC). The movie also features Miss Indias Pooja Chopra and Rakul Preet Singh, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles.
Talking about the inspiration behind the film, Neeraj said in a past interview, “The seeds of ‘Aiyaary’ were sown during the shoot of ‘Baby’ (2015), when we were interacting with personnel from the army and intelligence services. The title, ‘Aiyaary’, has been on my mind for a long time. It’s from the fantasy novel, ‘Chandrakanta’, written by Devaki Nandan Khatri. The word means ultimate trickery. The title is apt for the story in which a Colonel (Manoj Bajpayee) plays mentor to a Major (Sidharth Malhotra) in the Indian Army. Sidharth looks up to Manoj’s character, but the story reaches a turning point when they have conflicting views about a situation.”
