No Padmaavat in Tamil and Telugu for UK audience

Padmaavat is set to release in UK on the 25th January but there won’t be a Tamil or a Telugu version.

Only 48 hours to go for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus – Padmaavat! Amidst bans, threats and judgement recalls, the film is all set to release not just in Mumbai but also in UK. Paramount Pictures has announced the release date of Padmaavat to be 25th January The movie will release in 2d and 3D! As per reports on Bollynet uk, this will be the first Hindi film to release in Imax 3D but it will be a limited release. The British Board of Film Certification passed the movie with a 12a classification. That means children aged 12 and above can watch the film. But what acts as a dampener to this exciting news is that Padmaavat won’t see a Tamil or a Telugu release in UK cinemas. While UK will see a not so dramatic release, it will be a different story in India. Despite Supreme court lifting the ban, Rajasthan and Madhya refuse to release the film. In fact, they want the Apex court to recall their judgement of their 18th January decision. 200 Rajput woman began a protest in Chittorgarh with swords in hand. They called it the Swambimaan rally with memorandums asking to ban the films or allowing them to end their lives. Karni Sena have threatened to burn down theatres where the film will be showing.

As per recent reports the makers of Padmaavat have asked for protection and police personnel to be stationed at the important cineplexes in Mumbai. Even In Haryana, special forces will be manning areas around the cinema halls where it will be screened. “No one will be allowed to disrupt peace in the state.”

Padmaavat is based on a poem written by the 16th Century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad. The film stars Deepika Padukone in the lead as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. While paid previews will take place on 24th, the film will officially release on 25th January. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie was to clash with Padman but the makers of Padman have moved their dates to 9th February.
