It was in September 2017 that Kabir Khan announced his ambitious project 83. A biopic based on India’s historic victory at 1983 World Cup at Lord’s Stadium, England has been in news for the longest time. For the first time Ranveer Singh will step into the shoes of cricketer Kapil Dev, and fans can’t wait to see him play the iconic cricketer on the big screen.

And if latest buzz is to be believed, Nawazuddin Siddiqui will play his coach in the sports drama. According to a report in a magazine, the makers have approached Nawazuddin to play Ranveer’s cricket coach in 83.

If things go as planned, this will be Nawazuddin’s second collaboration with Kabir Khan. The two, earlier, worked together in the 2015 film Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Khan had earlier explained his reasons for making the film. “As a young schoolboy, when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards, cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”

Ranveer and Nawazuddin have an interesting line up of work in 2018. If Sacred Games, India’s first original series on a major streaming giant starring Nawazuddin and Saif Ali Khan, will premiere on July 6, Ranveer is currently shooting for Simmba.
